There was a very interesting presentation by Peyton Mason on this subject at last year's Advanced Research Techniques conference (AMA). Peyton did fascinating quantitative linguistic analysis of focus group sessions and was able to derive a lot of insight from changes in tense and style of language. Our own experience here has been with a program called TACT, Text Analysis Computing Tables, which I believe is currently administered by the Modern Language Association, but originally developed at the University of Toronto under IBM sponsorship.
