Letitia,

I was just checking the board and it occurred to me that my answer might appear to be completely the opposite from Herb's. Herb's comment is that we have many theories that are related to marketing research, yet mine, posted later, says that we have nothing and never will have anything in the way of marketing theories. I thought I should make another post to make the point that we are probably saying the same thing, as odd as this might sound!

Note that I am saying that we either borrow ideas from other disciplines, or that ideas that we call our own have roots in other disciplines. E.g., while we work with things like game theory or pricing theories, the original work for these came from other disciplines. I guess I answered the question, "are there any theories of marketing," and the answer is "well, not really." Herb answered the question that you actually asked, "are there any theories that are *related* to marketing research," - and he is absolutely right to point out many that are related to the work that we do.

Hope this clarifies what might have sounded like a contradiction!
